Lightbulb Programming for Dummies

Ahoy hoy,

I would like to do some programming on my '11 3.5d to enable the towing feature once I install the OEM harness & hitch. Naturally, the nerd in me would like to take a shot at enabling some of the other "cool" feature also while tackling it. However, due to having an infant son to care for full time, I have literally no time to invest into figuring out how to do this starting from scratch. I've looked around the interwebs, and come across a few write ups, but to be honest, they aren't written w/ the target audience of true novice IMO. That said, maybe I didn't come across a good guide, or maybe one doesn't exist. To be honest, the whole German language thing throws me for a loop

Anywho, this is a shout out to anyone who could point me in the direction of a good "how-to" that I would be able follow to first enable the towing feature, and second, the "other features". The DIYer in me simply can't admit defeat here and pay a coder to do it for me If something say doesn't exist, if someone were to say summarize in bullet points what to do, that would be awesome.

FYI: I bought this cable. It came w/ a CD w/ the SW on it already

Read through this. Good setup, it's got fairly recent datens. You basically just install bmw tools, then move a few files over to program files, and you're good to go. I run this on a Samsung TabPro S with a eBay K+Dcan cable on a usb-c adapter.

Otherwise, Google E70 coding and find a quick list of options to manipulate. That link I gave you have a preset expert mode in NCS.

As always, back up before you write a MAN file.

Let me know if you need any specific help. It's fairly straight forward however.

Thanks a lot for that. I'll give it a shot. Not quite the "...for dummies" level but let's see how things go!
