If both the rings are out, I would doubt that its the associated LED module. Most likely the DRL module. What error do you get on the dash? Can you scan the codes, because that will definitely log a code.

Blue Dragon..
The only thing indicates that light is out is the message we get when a bulb is out. It tells me my Right daytime running light is out. I think I'll try to get to the module this weekend sometime. I'm planning to call the parts desk as well to see if they have a clue as to what I need to order. |

You should also know that if it is a short or open circuit and you didnt fix the problem for ~50 ignition cycles this light will never come on even if you replace a faulty module. You definitely need BMW diagnostic tool to see what is going on.

Interesting... What is the purpose of that? To disable it to prevent a short circuit or ..?
I assume it can be re-coded/re-enabled once you repair it?

Not in a conventional way. BMW will replace the module as it appears as a hard code(not erasable). There are ways to be done, but none is a straightforward.

I think you can reset the counter with tool32

This is not a straightforward procedure and I as a medium level Tool32 user was never able to accomplish that. But is doable.

Update
I ended up sucking it up and letting the dealer change the LED modules in the X last week. I took it in and they thought that it had the H8 to no avail. Turned from 60 buck to a 1000 real quick. The LED modules were 660 and they installed them in an hour or so. The thing is, is they need to be programed. WTH BMW, This is the last straw for me guys. To have to pay a grand for a parking light is above reproach! Never thought it would happen to me but it did.
Rant over....now I know for sure it dosent have the h8 for halos its got something far more expensive and I cant see any different!!

Sorry to hear you have been just another dealer's victim. The "LED modules" doesnt have to be programmed, and probably they were not faulty at all, but the delaer just chaged them. The "DRL module" was most probably faulty and it has to be programmed. It has list price of ~$144.
