Removing and reinstalling running board question

Hi guys,

I'm going to be removing my running boards to get them aluminium strip powder coated black.

Question is, what parts can't be re-used? i.e. plastic rivets, clips etc. What should I order?

Assume 90+ black rubber\plastic "studs" on the running boards can be popped out and reused?

Thanks in advance.

Graeme

Graeme,

If you are careful you can reuse most of the fasteners, but be aware that the the bolts have a sealant that waterproofs their penetrations. I swapped my running boards for side skirts and replaced all the fasteners, but I could have reused them. there are two or three per side that require some manipulation to uncover and remove, but if you look at some of the write ups regarding the removal you should be fine. There are some rivets in the wheel wells that will need to be replaced.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'll get a few rivets for the arches bought.

Did you just use general silicon sealant for the 3 bolts?

Do you have a link to any removal guides? I found some install ones, but not step by step.

Thanks again

Graeme

When i swapped mine i re-used everything except for the plastic rivets which break off. Go to Harbor Freight (if you have one nearby) and get the plastic rivet kit, that should be all you need. You only take off the first 2 or 3 rivets from the arches anyways.

Graeme,

The replacement bolts have the sealant already applied. Since I used new bolts, I didn't have to apply any silicon, ut that would probably work. There are many more than three, sorry for not being clear.
