4.8i Intake Resonators Deleted
I deleted the intake resonators on my 4.8i E70. There is one on the bottom of each cold-air feed tube, and one in the MAF -> TB tube.
The sound is sensational. It is hard tell a difference just driving around town under part-throttle, but anything over half-throttle and 2,500 RPMs and it really screams. Highly recommended. |

I will try to get pics and a video up. I used the black plastic bearing covers that cover the idler/tensioner pulleys for the 2 feed tube holes (old ones, as I just replaced all the pulleys, belts, and tensioners), and I cut a piece of black plastic to fit the throttle body tube hole. All sealed with black RTV.

Yeah it is one of the cheapest mod and well worth it
Myself I covered the hole with a Woolite bottle cap. Similar to this. Mine was red. ![]() |

As a handy new owner of a new '08 4.8, would you mind providing pictures of the resonators, so that I can repeat? What is the MAF?
Are they on the cold air feed tubes that are over the radiator? Sorry for the questions. Thanks a ton! |

as in: "i really like the sound of my engine not running right"
intake resonators do more than just reducing engine noise, actually that's more or less a byproduct. they're designed to make the engine run more efficiently by (ideally) eliminating pressure wave harmonics and, thus, improving air flow into the engine.

Ohhhh. Ok. As I am new to these engines, I thought the resonators would be there to only muffle the sound of the intake. I probably should have guessed that there may be more to it than that. Thanks for the info!

well, if "someone always brings this up" then there might be some actual truth to it. the fact is that car manufacturers these days have better things to do than to dangle bits of plastic from their engine ancillaries that serve absolutely no purpose, other than engine covers maybe. i could try and explain the working principle of intake resonators and why they actually make sense but you have already decided that you're better off without them, despite their measurable benefits. and who am i to argue about what you should and shouldn't do with your own vehicle? go knock yourself out but please do not proclaim your personal, entirely anecdotal opinions about engine efficiency as fact.
