Electronic handbrake has stuck on

Hi hope someone can help or point me in the right direction. I have a 2011 x5 40d, today my wife couldn't get the car to move as the handbrake light was on- a friend helped her release it via the manual release in the boot. Is this a costly affair to repair or is there anything else she can try. The bmw garage can't take the car for another 10 days? Im worried it could cause more damage? I'm away from home working so my wife is At home with the car, any help would be appreciated thanks

Depending on what is broken, and the shop, the cost will vary.

I would simply NOT use the ebrake at all for the next 10 days....

It will not damage anything , just don't use e-brake, but i think your e-brake is not locking anymore.

The typical fail points are the cables and the actuator. Cable replacement would probably run $300 per side at a shop and it could be one side or both. The actuator retails for $900 or so if I remember correctly and you're probably looking at a couple hours labor to install. I pulled mine myself and sent it off for repair which included new cables and spent $300 total.
