Diesel Tuning Questions - PC Based Custom Mapping?
The warranty on my X5 35D is gone....so I've been thinking of getting some more power out of the diesel! I read this guide: https://bimmian.com/blog/2016/07/07/Software+and+Tuning From the options, looks like PC based might be the best, but I don't see any options for diesel via pc based tuning. What tune do you guys recommend? Reliability is very important to me so I don't need the highest performance but 40-50ft.lb torque and 30-40bhp would be very acceptable gains. Thanks everyone! |

If your talking about deleting emissions why don't you do what needs done and buy an ecu from a country that doesn't have emissions .That should wake your car up! There such a small market for this compared to the top 3 trucks, well I think there's only one tuner pissing with this.Dont get me wrong I'm all for deleting !

Quote:
Find a tuner, remove your DDE, send it to the tuner, wait to receive your DDE back from tuner, reinstall your DDE and then enjoy.

iI have spent some time to write a few long posts here about the mater, more like a car enthusiast and profesional than for advertising of the tuning product that I offer. JBD stage1 is a decent option and works fine for many people that bought it. It is especially convenient for cars sill under warranty. However in colder climates and specific driving patterns it may cause some problems with the DPF regeneration for which the DDE cannot compensate because the piggyback is "lying" to it and it doesnt know what exactly is going on. Now, the flash tune (or PC based) is the right way to do this because all changes are accounted for inside the maps. The DDE knows it is making more power(most of the time within the factory maps, they dont even have to be re-scaled) and the transmission also knows that the engine is making more power and at a different time. Here is one of the main differencies between flash tune and piggyback. All our customers have been very happy with the improved shift pattern after Stage1. This is because the transmission control unit is deciding when to shift and lock/unlock the torque converter based on the data it receives from the DDE for the current power output from the engine. With the flash tune the transmission receives the real values and with the piggyback the transmission receives the same value as with a non-tuned car. Making more power early and letting the transmission knowing that definitely makes a ton of improvement. Unfortunately the transmission tunning in our cars is marginal at best, terrible in my opinion, and there is no way to be changed so far. The only way to influence it some is with a flash tune.

^ Thanks for the reply!
I think I will pass on the piggyback...really leaning towards a properer tune like Malone. Which do you offer? |
