2008 E70 X5 3.0 Rear CV boots leaking grease
Hi guys, I was told today that my rear CV boots are leaking grease. I Quoted $2900 dollars to repair both. Apparently BMW does not make a kit to replace the boots only. They only sell the hole shaft assy. . Is this a correct statement or is there a way to jus repair the boots? Is there a aftermarket option?
Thanks:thumb: |

Autozone has complete rear shafts at ~$192 with a limited lifetime warranty.
If you are handy it is just a 8 or 10mm allen wrench socket-breaker bar -ratchet, PB Blaster, some blue locktite and a bit of time. Save $2500. |

I would contact a reputable indy shop. Ask if you can supply the parts (Autozone, Napa, etc.).

Can't speak for rear, but just few days ago I bought a front outer boot kit for ~$50 from local BMW dealer. Used drive shafts are $100-200 on eBay, and given they almost never go bad, it's probably the most convenient option. Don't forget to replace the differential seal, if you go that route.

Judging by his description of the effort, I doubt...

Bought the two rear shafts and after using my condensed description of replacement, replaced both CV shafts. At 12K more miles they are still going strong. |
