Winter change over

I just took the X5 to get a set of winters put on>
I have a set of 235/60/18 winters on GM rims so I needed them broke down and installed.
The installer refused because he said the BMW OE is for run flats only and he would be libel if anything happened.

I said I would sign a release but he still refused.

Is this normal ?

Not sure I understand your situ...
What are GM rims? Maybe that tire size on a GeneralMotors wheel?

BMW wheels, OE or reps, will take non run flat tires all freakin day...
Find a new tire joint.

I'm confused also.

You're putting GM wheels on your X5?

Or are you taking the tires off of GM wheels and having them installed on your existing X5 wheels? If so and as said above, as long as your X5 wheels are within the tire manufacturers recommended wheel width there shouldn't be an issue. All I'll say is that 235mm seems narrow as the recommended winter tire from BMW is 255mm wide.

Ditto, find a new place. I've run all kinds of "non approved" tires types, sizes, configurations, wheel spacers, re-treads, hub adapters up to 2 inches, etc. The shop never had an issue with it as long as I explained to them I knew the risks and that they obviously wouldn't be held responsible. Never even had to sign anything.

Sorry for the confusion.
Gm is General Motors and I'm removing 235/60/18 winter tires from the GM rims to put on my existing BMW X5 rims for winter use.
I do understand that the rim design might be a little different due to the fact that the OEM is using run flat tires.
