Spare tire
2009 BMW X5 3.0i, no sport package, P255/55/18 Any thoughts of changing from run flats to regular tires with a spare? A wheel from a tire store is running about $100, I would be using one of my best old runflats as a spare. Pick a Part for a universal jack and lug wrench. Any other suggestions? Thanks, |

Sounds like a good idea to me. Most hate the run flats from what I have heard.

"a wheel with a tire"
That fits in the (small and specially sized) spare tire compartment? Or just sits in the back of the car? |

My new 7 seater has no spare. I robbed the tires off my totalled 08. I (knock on wood) have found after removing the godawful run flats on all my other BMWs that A. Keeping a good tread B. Paying attention to where and what you drive over make all the difference in the world. Finally C. I keep a can of tire foam in the trunk and the compressor from one of my old Touaregs for a just in case and have never had a problem.

will a regular size tire fit into spare tire compartment in a 5 seater? my 12 did not come with a spare, I did not realize that it was an optional equipment.

No, I think it is too wide, and the lid will not close.

From the part database...when you want a spare wheel & emergency tire...and you don't have the 3rd row seat. If you click the link below...then click on the blue "i" (or the + info link below the part nbr)...it will display all the things that come in the retrofit kit:

I don't have one, just a can of slime in the trunk and on trips I take my portable compressor "just in case" but prob would never use it because -
-If I get a flat, the DWS06 I got my wife from Tire Rack have road hazard, and since BMW doesn't recommend repairing tires at all, we would get reimbursed for a new tire replacement -She has roadside with the CPO god forbid she needs it if I'm not in the car etc - Sure we may be living on the edge a bit with no spare, but when my wife pulled up the trunk floor and saw how much more space for storage she had, she was ecstatic LOL
