Shredded Tire Sidewall - Need advice

Hey fellas!

My wife drove on a flat tire with our x5 and destroyed the sidewall and possibly the rim as the tire no longer takes air when pumped

I found a pair of the exact rims (style 214) on Craigslist and picked them up today. They came with the factory Dunlop run flats. I will place the replacement tire on this rim as it's in mint condition. Also, I fear the original wheel with the shredded tire might be damaged. It would not take air when pumped with a compressor. So better to go with these new rims I picked up.

To add anther layer of complexity, currently the e70 has Continental ExtremeContact DWS...which are no longer available for sale (DWS06 now).

Question is:

1) Replace only the front passenger side tire with a used ExtremeContact DWS with similar tread depth. $115CAD balanced and installed on the new rim.

OR

2) Replace both front wheels with the new rims I picked up and put on new matching Continental ExtremeContact DWS06

OR

3) Most expensive option, replace all tires. Which I would like to avoid as the current tires have a fair bit of life left.

Also, I secondary question... what to do about the TMPS? Build sheet is saying Prod.date: 2010-10-18

Thank you all very much!

Without knowing if the wheel is damage it's hard to say. If it is, I would utilize the two front stlye 214s you picked up and buy matching pair of DWS06 tires. Not sure where you get your tires from but TireRack has DWS06 275s for about $250/each. If the OE wheel is still good, I would still get two matching new DWS06 tires. You can always sell one tire on the open market to recoup some money.

This happened to me on my E83 X3. Hit a curb, tire blew out. Wheel was still good, so I just had two fresh DWS06 tires installed. Granted they were 245 or 255 (I cant remember), not the bigger 275s.

Id try to find a matching used- then plan on 4 new when needed.

Alternatively replace one axle as a pair.

I believe the DWS and DWS06 have the same diameter (actually more important it 'revs per mile')...although you didnt list the sizes.

Sorted it out guys! Found the same used tire with almost the exact tread wear. Ended up just replacing only the damaged tire.

Now I have two extra wheels with directional tires on them as spares, in case of an emergency.

Other then the ability of the tire to properly shed water, is there any issue of safety using a directional tire the wrong way? ...not for daily driving but as a spare.

Also, will the wider wheel in the back work for the front as a spare...thinking of selling the front one. Don't need 2 spares.

Thanks again!!

You will shred the tread off the tyre...
Allbeit for short controlled "emergency" whilst exaggerated wear will occur, needs must

Re keeping the rear and selling the front, I'd go the other way, sell the rear!
