Just joined the X club! 2008 X5 4.8i 99k

I've been lurking and reading. Just bought my first X.

It reminds me of my e60.

Got it at a pretty good price. Was serviced at Park Ave BMW NY

Is very clean but needs little bits of love.... seat track covers off. ding on tail gate. sunshade missing lift tab

CCC is acting up so I will NBT retro just like my M5

Good looking X5. 214 wheels still look the best IMHO.

Have spent 500 already. 220 for 3 engine partition panels. 300 Used active sway bar. Lots of leatherique for dry leather. Removing hacked hid fog lights that don't work. Heat shrink splices. Cleaned inoperable CCC controller. Works now. Removed inoperable led front dome light.
The dreaded 2 stage brake light is next.
Then remove rear bumper to glue back sunken parking sensors.

Going to pull fender flares and paint them
Anything I miss?
No leaks so far!... aside from active sway.
Would it be safe to assume valve oil seals were done because all engine partition were broken?

Yup, I've done a lot of work since I purchased my X5. Nope on broken rain tray meaning engine work has been done. They all crap out on these cars. BMW used very low quality plastic. Heck they break just being handled.

1) Replaced Alternator, Belts and Tensioner
2) replaced engine rain tray (mine was all cracked they use the cheapest most brittle plastic)
3) new MAF
4) Replaced fluids on Diffs, Xfer, Transmission, Power Steering, Coolant and oil, and air filters
5) replaced spark plugs (what a pain)
6) Replaced rear hatch struts the power lift gate failed
7) entire CCV system
8) front lower control arms and sway bar end links
9) Heater Valve
10) replaced melted trim plastic
11) additives to fix engine smoking on extended idle

To-Fix
Sunroof wont close from vent position
front diff leaks oil
parking break module failure
front rear control arms and upper control arms as well as strut mounts (they've rotted)
Probably shocks/struts as well, I think they're starting to get pretty tired

To Watch
Noisy power steering pump (mine has adaptive drive)

I purchased mine in October, I also tinted my windows and added trailer hitch. Between repairs, maintenance and a few mods, and most of this was diy, I've spent more than 50% of the purchase price of the car :-(

OK. sounds like a lot of stuff!!! As long as it doesn't all go at once!
I still love the car! It's a phenomenon that a 5000 lb truck car moves like this.
The most bothersome right now is the CCC. It's sooooo old and antiquated.
About to spend 500 for the NBT retrofit adapter and get this updated.

NBT retrofit adapter? Could you elaborate? I've got the twin to yours and I'm between CIC and NBT but not knowing if I want to cut up and "custom" mount the screen.

I second this. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do to upgrade my CCC, but it seems there are several different options, but not many details on any of them available.

NBT will only require Custom cut of your old CCC screen. All you do is remove the old screen from the plastic to mount the NBT screen.
NBT has everything integrated. There are a lot of new wires that have to be routed. IE. sirius, 2nd antenna, 2x microphone wires. You will need an emulator (not the cheap ebay one. The one from Custom Retrofit Garage
The original climate screen will not work but another takes its place. Its black and white. NBT has built in combox so you won't have to retrofit combox either. NBT is more wiring, and a little bit more complicated, But its newer tech.

CIC screen could be sourced to avoid the cutting. All functons should work with CIC especially the Climate screen. If you want combox, you will have to rewire the TCU area. CIC is a simpler install but slower and older tech.

I've done both the CIC and the NBT on the e60. So, i'm hoping it will be simpler this time. And my Custom Retrofit Garage contact should be simpler since I know how it's done. VS. calling and emailing Adrian all the time to ask questions.
