Door Molding Delete

Has guys, I just picked up a 2013 X5 35d Platinum Gray Metallic, Black Nevada, Heated Sport steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, active driver seat, multi-contour front seats, heated rear seats, 3rd row seat, pano roof, NAV, adaptive headlights with full LED LCI package, rear window sun shades, etc. Brand new Weathertech liners, brand new Michelin tires, brand new front brake rotors and pads and fresh fluids and filters. I haven't taken delivery of it yet, but my shipper is going to grab it for me next week.

Already ordered a set of new staggered X6M reps 22x10, 22x11. Ordered the OEM fender flare kit, ordered a set of H&R 2" lowering springs, and I will be ordering gloss black grills, and the OEM Aero Kit. I have many plans beyond that, but it will take some time to get to anything more than that immediately. Most of my energy will be going into properly detailing the vehicle, and creating a proper baseline.

Finally to my question. Can I remove the factory flat black door moldings? Not sure if these have clips adjusted to the car or not. I am really looking to create a super slippery OEM plus look to the vehicle. I debadge everything I own, and I really like to keep things clean and detailed.

So if I deleted them, I should just be able to use the 3M eraser wheel and have a clean door with no moldings. This is such a common mod on other cars, but I have literally not seen any E70 X5's like this.

So if you deleted them you will see a formed 'channel' in the door where this trim sits.

Open your door, look at the trailing edge @ the trim....

It might be why you havent seen this mod. Well, that and the fact that that trim reduces door dings!

You running winter tires on those 22x10 & 11 rims?

I haven't even taken delivery of my X5 yet, so I am unable to look at the door to see if there is a channel. My car is being shipped to me this week from down south. Now I have confirmation that this isn't possible. Thank you. I bought my 22" wheels yesterday, so no I have not even gotten them yet. For the winter, I'll be running my stock 19" wheels with brand new Michelin All-Seasons on them. If those are horrible, I'll score some proper winter tires. Maybe I'll sell the stock wheels and tires and get myself a proper set of winter wheels and tires. I have a lot of time to decide. Weather is just starting to get nice here.

I'm thinking that your only option is to body match the trims with appropriate prep, primer and paint.

Yes, I have obviously seen this done. Both the Maports and the X5M run the painted moldings.
