Software Update Q's

Hi everyone,

My X5 has a build date of 02/2010 which falls before the newer software version.

I want to update the software but will that also update the iDrive?

Dealer wants $170 which I would, do if it updated both firmware and iDrive software.

Thanks for your input!

It will not, and to be honest, you probably won't notice any difference.

I recently updated my CCC ECU, which turned into a giant headache because I was not aware that it is a big no-no to do over a K+DCAN cable. I was fortunate enough to find someone local with ISTA/P and a proper power supply, but it was still a big hassle, and I don't really see any difference.

But to get the updated iDrive, it requires a full hardware change, plus coding. Expect to spend like $1,500.00 +

I think the 2/1010 X5 has the CIC, not the CCC. What do you expect the newer iDrive software to do that the current doesn't?

I purchased the code and software for the NAV update and got to disc4 at 87.7% then the hard drive error came up "disc unable to be read" I reset the CIC tried again and every time it errors at the exact same % complete on disc 4. I thought the update would solve my hardrove issue.

How much music is on the HD? Why are you using DVD's to load the maps. I use the USB port in the glove box. Did you try it?

Did the maps come from a reliable source?
Was navigation working normal before you attempted to upgrade the maps?
There's a thread on bimmerfest about replacing the HD. DIY Upgrade Navigation CIC Hard Drive to SSD Solid State Drive - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

Thanks for that link, might be a project.
Yes everything was working fine before the upgrade attempt.
I tried files from 2 reliable sources and both did the same thing.

Thanks for posting this. I will be doing this in the very near future... for no reason other than I love solid state storage.
