My X5

Hey guys, I've been lurking on the forums for a while and decided to bite the bullet and pick myself up a X5. I am a multiple Audi owner and love fiddling with my cars so this will just be a log of what I do or have done.
When I first bought the X5
Paid $6k for it. Couldn't find one around here for under $17k at the time. Last owner said it only needed a few minor cosmetic things. So I flew down and looked at it. Right away saw it needed a new front fender as this one had a crack in it. I took it for a test drive and it drove great for what it was. Paid the guy his money and drove it 300k back home.

On the way home the coolant light came on, headlight burnt out and the dreaded DSC sensor and 4x4 warning came on. I pulled into the nearest gas station and topped up the coolant away we went again. Got home and the next day went to town looking over everything it needed.

List of what I saw.
Valve cover gaskets
Valley pan gasket
Headlight bulbs
New tail lights as the inners were burnt out
New rear air bag
I drive sensor for the dial inside the car
New stop start button
Missing engine cover
Missing engine partions
DSC 4x4 fix
Front brakes and pads

So I bought most through a friend whose a master BMW mechanic and he did all the gaskets etc. I installed the 6000k headlights and had them cleared. Had new LCI tails flown over from Europe and put them on. Did a full fluid change and filter change through out the whole vehicle. To fix the DSC and 4x4 we reset the steering angle sensor and it's been great since. Installed new arnott rear bags and added sport fender flares and 22" vossen wheels

Only things I have left to do are track down a new front fender and install it, have the last of the chrome wrapped in black and look for a set of sport seats and add my sat radio. As I do more mods I'll add to this

Nice to see someone bringing back an X5 from an otherwise dreadful future. Hell at $6k I probably would have done the same so long at the drivetrain was good. Definitely will be watching as you progress with the repairs and mods!

He was asking $10k for it but I knew it needed a little more work than what he was telling me from the test drive. He bought it from his uncle that maintained the hell out of it but unfortunately this guy didn't put a penny into it other than new wheel bearings. Drive train is solid, doesn't burn any oil and coolant stays where where it should be now.

Today we are hooking up a laptop to it and doing some coding to add a few features for me.

Damn 6K is a great Price....already looks great with the LCI Tail lights. Its amazing how a color can make these things look new or old. My 08 in Platinum Bronze Looked so much older then my newer one in the exact body in Titanium Silver. Welcome to the Headache....I mean family.

blue dragon will become famous soon enough
You pulled over at a gas station and topped up the coolant with what type of coolant, did you have BMW blue coolant?

Thanks guys .. no they didn't have BMW coolant but I used what ever they had to get me home then flushed the system and put in BMW coolant. Had every fluid changed right after I bought it.

what a great deal.. ballsy move too..to travel that distance you never know what you are going to find. it's also more difficult to negotiate when the buyer knows you traveled that far. sounds like you beat him up up pretty good to get the price low
