I just grabbed a few pics from my 3.0si. You're definitely missing a strut(?) in addition to whatever the plug is connecting to.
   I dug further and found this from realoem -> front axle suspension... so perhaps it controls your headlight aim as you turn the wheel. See if that's still working for you (aim against the garage door). http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=31_0796 Also, I have adaptive drive (in description of part) so maybe yours isn't really missing if you don't have adaptive drive. (And remind me never to fly through any deep puddles)
