Should I buy this X5?

Hi all-

Great forum here, lots of great information. I did a search and didn't find anything specific to this question, so thought I'd pose it here. If mods need to move to another area, please do.

I've owned a few BMWs before, and currently own a 2002 Lexus SC430. Previous BMWs: 1987 325 (e30), 1989 735iL, 1995 525i, 2001 330ci, so I know a bit about the expenses of owning older, higher mileage vehicles.

My question is, would YOU buy this X5?

2008 BMW X5 4.8i
134,000 miles
$10,900 asking price
4 owners, clean carfax. (4th owner has owned for 17 days, selling due to life changes - I actually looked at it when the 3rd owner was selling it 1 month ago)
Alpine white exterior, perforated nevada leather
Sport package, cold weather package, premium package
Entertainment package
Tow package
Only option this vehicle does not have is the HUD.

Updates/fixes:
Valley pan replaced
valley pan gasket replaced
rear air bag (suspension) replaced
battery
coolant expansion tank
tons of other receipts - 3rd owner probably spent 7k in 30 months on it.

The 2 items that have not been changed:
Valve Stem seals
Alternator gasket seal

My SC430 has 165k miles, runs strong and I won't be selling it. Will be keeping as a 3rd car and 'safety' vehicle but I'd like to get an SUV as I can't haul 4x8 sheets of plywood in my Lexus.

I've always loved BMWs since my '87 e30 and know that they are great vehicles if maintained properly. The 4th owner has owned the car for about 3 weeks and now needs to sell it because of recent life changes so it popped back up on craigslist. After the I spoke to the 3rd owner and found it out sold, I thought it was just meant to be and I moved on. Then I started looking again on Craigslist and it popped back up, although with the new, 4th owner.

Is it meant to be? Stay away? Jump on it?

Before making any sort of offer, I plan on having a PPI done at the local BMW dealership. I feel like the bulk of the expensive items have been done and replaced and it could be a great vehicle for another 100k miles. Thoughts?

You can't haul a 4x8 in an X5 either, but it will tow a trailer!

Seems like it's had a good bit of work done and should be problem free for a long time. 10k for a car equipped like that no matter the brand is cheap. That thing was 55-60 new?

Athracite headliner is one of my favorite features.

I wouldn't say that the HUD is the only missing option, I don't see rear heated seats, no 3rd row, (though that's not a bad thing to many), no leather stitched dash, etc.

It does have rear heated seats, but, correct, no 3rd row. Wasn't aware of leather stitched dash.

Thanks for the info!

D'oh! Now I see the buttons. For whatever reason, the tan trim around the rear HVAC made it look completely different than my black interior.

Wish I had ventilated seats, but I don't think they were an option in 2009.

Does it have the DVD changer in the glovebox? How about heated steering wheel, power lift gate?

Yes, has the 6 DVD changer in the glovebox, a single for the front monitor, and a single I believe in the back as well.

Yes, has heated steering wheel and power lift gate. Tested both when I looked at it.

Yeah, I'd probably go for it if I hadn't been looking for the Diesel engine specifically.

Good find!
