Question Mine has a dipstick

Hey guys, thanks for the help

first of all...I spent a decent amount of time on Goggle researching this before i posted and I couldn't find an answer to save my life.

simple question

my 2007 E70 V8 HAS a transmission dipstick on it.... my question is, do you check the fluid level with the car idling or with the car off??? i couldn't even find the answer on the owners manual.

i may or may not have a small leak, but in order to find out i need to know how to properly check the level....

thanks

I don't believe you that you have a dipstick for the trans. Pretty positive BMW did away with transmission dipsticks 20+ years ago.

Where are you seeing the "transmission dip stick"? My 08 does not have one and neither does my 01 E38. If you are meaning the small dip stick at the right front of the engine, that is for engine oil, not the transmission.

As said above, there is an oil dipstick despite what some people think. But I don't recall there being a trans dipstick. You have to get under the car and check in the filler plug.

The oil dipstick is under the car? The meth in Germany must be excellent.

No transmission dipstick, you have to check the transmission level through the filler plug when warm and running.
Engine Oil dipstick in he usual spot... though I have been told quite a few times that there is no engine oil dipstick in these.
