USB port access - glove box

I am trying to update the Nav on my 2011 X5. When I tried to insert the drive into the glove box usb port, the drive went in, but the system did not recognize it. I tried different sticks to no avail. I also turned the stick "upside down" and tried to insert it. It went in as well as "right side up" which I think is telling me the port is pushed into the housing, as I don't think I should be able to insert a thumb drive either end up.

Does anyone know how to fish this thing out, or if there is anything else I should try? I tried to update the Nav via DVD but that didn't work - loooooooooong story and time waste.

Help greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem. My port was damaged. Look at the port very closely. You should see (4) contacts. One of mine was peeled back and wouldn't contact the usb stick. Had to replace the port, it's a $30 part. It's also possible the maps aren't correctly loaded on the usb stick. You might put a few mp3's on stick and see if CIC will offer to load them to the hard disk.
