Tips needed for 2012 x5 40d with 98k

Hello guys, I will be looking at 2012 x5 e70 40d with 98k on the clock. Can you give me some tips to look out for? My past cars have always been a weekend car as I use the train during the week. I reckon this will be used 5k per year.

I am looking forward to any tips you will give me. Cheers!

btw this is to replace my 2007 x5 4.8

Had so much trouble with my 4.8 engine, it's very powerful, but it is falling apart at 83k. I will never buy a V8 from BMW again

I don't think many would recommend a diesel when driving so few miles annually.

I wonder what made you get a diesel if you only put 5k annually? Diesel engines are meant to be driven more than that. It is designed for high mileage. Components clogging due to low mileage use sometimes post problems now and most people are very surprised to discover they have an expensive job on their hands. Not to mention the unexpected inconvenience. I myself put 5K annually too on my 07 4.8i at 86k miles and no engine issues. Really depends on how you maintain your car.

Is it really because of low mileage? Or is it because of not having too many long range trips? For me, the main reason is because, I had a bad experience with the V8 X5, and whenever I search on you tube for X5 problems, it's mostly related to the V8 petrol. I love the X5 but I wasn't very lucky with my petrol V8

The issue with diesels is length of trips, not overall mileage.

taking 2-3 mile trips every day will kill it.

Driving 200 miles at a shot, 400 miles in a month but parked in between is prolly not an issue.
