‘12 xdrive35 occasional long start

70k miles. Every few weeks, mostly in evenings after several hours parked, I get a 5 second or so and loud start. Car is cranking strong but never seems to catch and light up. This is rather random. Never happened on cold mornings. Doesn’t happen after 2-3 days of not driving. Is it fuel starvation? Battery seems strong and was replaced less than 2 years ago.

About 2 years ago the dealer also told me to replace coils or something to that effect but I never followed up.

What do you think it is and about what’s a reasonable price to fix?

That sounds like the fuel pump is going weak. There's a recall for the fuel pump on this cars, search that up or call the dealer. It could be a free fix!

Runs about $18.

Maybe 20 min labor.

If you cant take the time to remember what the dealer told you, why should others guess?

On the basis of that info how could you possible expect ANYONE to diagnose AND bid the job?
