I finally did it, locked my keys in the X5
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So there I was in -8C weather, with my phone locked in the car. Luckily I wasn't far from home and borrowed a phone to call my wife to bring her keys. ![]() Lesson learned, take BMW marketting BS with a grain of salt, the keys can be locked in the car under the right conditions

I always keep a spare key hidden on the outside of my cars. It once saved a 50 mile tow truck ride home when my wife lost her key.

Interesting. I am all too familiar with the water issue so I usually set it away from the car. Good to know that it CAN happen. I used to keep a hide-a-key too Tomaz, but it’s tougher with CA and newer key styles.

I had this happen to me as well. I was going to investigate disabling comfort access to see if it makes a difference. I even contacted BMWNA and they said they disabled the ability to remotely unlock it. I had previously changed the batteries on my key fobs. I was surprised that the car would lock while the keys are in the car.
I would be interested to figure out if there is a way to avoid this. |

I've been able to lock my wife's keys in the car with my fob. She has CA on hers but I'm guessing my key is a replacement since I don't have it.
However I have spent about 10 minutes looking like a complete dumba$$ trying to get the rear hatch to remain closed not realizing it was because her purse was still in the car. |

I was just rinsing some filth off of ours yesterday. With one key in the car and one key in my pocket, I had no problems washing the passenger side. But when I got around to the driver door, the arm/disarm chirp started going off. It didn’t sound like it was actually locking the doors, just giving warning chirps. So I just kept washing.

I’ve always wondered why BMW didn’t provide the option to turn off the door locking/unlocking part of Comfort Access i.e. CA Lite.
FWIW we opted out of CA when we had our 2009 35d built, because the only part of CA we really want(ed) is the Start/Stop with keys in a pocket/purse. Back then there were reports of owners w/CA waking to finding their doors unlocked and sunroofs open after an overnight rain ![]() Funf Dreisig |

If that's the case, seems any thief could walk up with a bottle of water and unlock the car. |
