Anyone have any other info on this? I read somewhere that some of these are just a pull to remove (friction fit) type thing.

Headlight bulbs? It's a ridiculously complex task.

- jack up vehicle
- remove front wheel/tire
- remove wheel liner (make sure you have replacement plastic rivets because they're not reusable)
- remove plastic cover in back of light
- get your hand in there and disconnect the bulb connector
- by feel alone, flip up the metal spring clip
- scrape up your arm and hand, remove the bulb
- reverse for installation

Not friction fit; a metal clip retains the bulb in the projector.

This can be done from up top, no need to remove the wheel or anything like that. You have to work blind, but it can be done.

As for the spring retainer clip, that is for the early pre-LCI models. LCI models are different (which is the purpose of this thread). After more research, it looks like they do have to be turned CCW to remove.

I have a LCI. I didn't know how to replace them going in. I looked at it from the engine bay and determined that it was a no go. I couldn't even see the back of light. Baby hands might be able to feel around there, I suppose.

Decided to remove the wheel well liner and was committed before I knew it. Found the access marginally better. I could barely get the bulb in there from below without scraping the envelope and being afraid of cracking the return wire insulation.

Maybe I'll look closer next time as I want to install Osram Night Breaker Unlimited bulbs.

They're D1S so you're correct about the lack of a clip.
