Intermittent "TPM malfunction"
So I just replaced my brakes on Thursday last week and on Monday or Tuesday the tpm malfunction light kept coming on intermittently. Any ideas?
I did the rear brake pads and rotors. I was going to do the front ones but I found I had caliper issues (after I took them off) so I'm waiting for replacement ones to come in the mail for me to finish up the front brake pads and rotors. I put the fronts back together how they were and everything was fine for a few days but now I'm getting the annoying error on and off. Any suggestions? Could it be something I did? |

Just to cover bases, how old are these sensors? They have a limited battery life. I had to swap mine out after 5 or 6 years.

Likely unrelated to brake service and just a coincidental sensor battery failing. It’ll probably go in and out for a year or more. You can scan with the proper software to see which wheel is failing, but ultimately, likely, it’ll take pulling a tire off and replacing a sensor.

Sam's club switched my brothers tpms for $3 or $5 a tire (they will do a normal valve swap for free). I bought a pair for $50 but they were for Buick not sure for BMW.

It is not always the sensor(s) that fail. It could be the antennae/module that is failing. As is the case with my F10. Unfortunately, a new module is around the $300 mark and must be coded to the car before it will work (at least for the F10).

True. But sensors are most likely. A quick scan with proper software would confirm. And there’s no way they’re getting replaced for $3-4 by anyone.

Sam's club charges $0 to replace a valve. If it's TPMS they charge under $5 for the LABOR you have to supply the valve If you see the rest of my post it was $25@ for the TPMS for my brother's Enclave I'm not sure how much for BMW.
I have four wheels with BMW TPMS I'd be willing to remove if it would help somebody out they don't help me they are from E70 and my wife's E53 doesn't have the receiver Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
