Angry HPFP Failure at 77K!

My wife's X5 had been experiencing extended crank times for a few months now. First replaced the battery, seemed marginally better, then the dreaded reduced output engine warning light came on last week. It's a 2011 N55 engine and the SA says it's not covered by the recall. Called BMWNA to see if they would assist in the matter and it's looking like they will not... My contention being it's a premature failure, not even 80K on the clock. The dealer quoted $1050 to replace it. How refreshing would it be to see a company (BMW) stand behind it's workmanship???

While I agree 80K is a bit premature to have a fuel pump go out, its all about percentages. The majority have not experience a problem with the HPFP, some experienced complete engine failure just after the 4/50. Some of those people had goodwill done, some didn't. Every failure is different and is handled differently. But typically, after the warranty period; unless you bought an extended warranty/maintenance plan, you are on your own.

Just not sure why BMW should goodwill it. I mean it definitely doesn't hurt to try to get them to goodwill it, but when they don't, that's really it. As far as I know... BMW is the only manufacturer that will actually GOODWILL repairs and parts LONG after the warranty period.

As far as saying BMW should stand behind it... They did, for 4/50... 6/100 if it was a CPO. While it is never easy to part with $1000.00, that doesn't mean thats the price. Try another dealer, try an INDY, if neither are an option ask the dealer for a discount. Most of the time its in the area of 10%-15% off the bill... especially if you are a regular.
