Problem for me seemed to be that the remote would transmit for a few seconds and stop, so releasing and pressing again a couple more times gave homelink enough time to sync up. Not a problem since.

Hope this helps
I’ll give this a try. Can’t hurt at this point!

Yeah, that’s the part that doesn’t work for me. No fast blinking, no pairing to the remote.

I recently did a homelink / compass mirror retrofit to my E83. The lights on my mirror acts just like Jim H, always a slow blink. My mirror has the low profile led instead of the standard red clown nose, along with yellow led's along the lower left bottom edge.

I've watched a lot of the online video's, and my lights never seem to match the ones in the videos.

I have a Chamberlain opener, with a date code of 2016. Were able to program the mirror in the E30 without issue. I've tried several different remotes, as well as the learn button. I have two remotes that are model 953ESTD 02/16, one that is 953EV 1/18.

Been thinking about getting the Chamberlain Compatibility Bridge, I found it on Amazon for 25.

Did you hold both buttons together...at least 5sec. Remote has to be very close to the mirror. I do not understand it does not work when....before or after you pressed bitton on garage unit! Did you erase all previous codes

The basic technologu is that the homelink "listens" to **many** transmissions of the code, until it has collected a valid copy.

A transmitter that only sends ONCE. (or as 740is states '3 times') will not send enough 'copies' for the homelink to validate.

The solution is to manually repress (and restart) the transmission of codes. On some clickers it is 'one code per push'. and you should press once a second which the hmelink is listening. If the clicker sends say a series of 3, you might vary that to one press every 2 or 3 seconds.

The key is presenting a repeating series of codes to the homelink so it can learn...

Problem identified, but not yet solved...

First, thanks to everyone who replied. I had tried all of the tricks on how long to hold the button, distance from mirror, repeat presses—all that stuff.

Then yesterday, I’m in the garage doing some organization, and I see it — the compatibility bridge had already been installed by the garage door opener installer a couple years ago. I didn’t know he did that. That’s why my 2006 e90 works. The plug in “base” was in an outlet that was somewhat hidden, so I never saw it.

So now that I know what the likely solution is, I have another problem. I have no idea where the remote is for the compatibility bridge, and I need that to program the X5.

Well, at least now I know what I need. If I buy another compatibility bridge for $25, I should be able to get the X5 to work (in theory).

I’ll report back my findings...

For what it’s worth, Liftmaster is made by Chamberlain, and it wouldn’t surprise me if your opener is very similar to mine. The Homelink site says that if my Liftmaster has the opener has a yellow antenna wire, I might need the bridge. Of course, as my post mentions above, I needed the bridge for my e90 so I suspect I will for my e70 if I can find the remote to program (or buy a new bridge).

By the way, I did not have any problems with range on the e90 with the bridge, as some other have mentioned. Although I don’t ever trigger the garage door unless I can see at least see it.

Hope that helps...
-Jim

Jim -

Liftmaster and Chamberlain are the same, I think the Chamberlain brand is used for consumer sales thru retail channels with the Liftmaster brand used for professional services.

I saw that about the yellow wire, and checked mine this morning, sure enough I have a yellow antenna wire. I ordered the bridge from Amazon this morning, now I'll have to find an obscure plug to connect it, I think I have one lurking behind a shelf!!

Sounds like you have yours figured out as well.

Mike

Yeah, pretty sure I have it figured out, but I still haven't found the remote. My e90 is getting detailed at the moment though, and it's possible it's in the glovebox or something and I've just forgotten it was there. If it's not there, I'll have to order another kit, but for $25 that's not so bad.

I hope your problem is solved as well!

Hi all,
For what it’s worth, the Homelink bridge / repeater solved the problem for me. I found the remote for the one I have and it immediately worked with the Homelink buttons on the mirror. I did also have to use the “learn” button after on the opener, just as instructions suggest, but it all went smoothly. Looks like LiftMaster or Chamberlin with yellow antenna wire + BMW = bridge needed. More or less. Hope that helps!
