Air bags, drive shaft recall upgrade

My 2013 X5 3.5 is scheduled for replacing both front airbags and the front drive shaft. My only concern is that have to remove the entire top dashboard to replace the passenger airbag. This creates lots of opportunity for other problems down the road. Has anyone had experience with this replacement? Any bad news?

You’re ASSuming airbag replacement creates other problems. Fact is, it’s all in your head. There is no factual basis for this claim.

There's a recent thread here about issues after going in for recall work. But it's the first I've heard of issues FWIW

I had to replace both of my airbags due to an accident. But I did it myself, and everything came out well with the exception of one area of the dash that I didn’t line up correctly near the windshield. What kind of problems are you thinking of

My entire dash has been removed by the Dealer to replace the A/C air vap(?). No issues. My buddies too. We both have X5Ms too, which I’d think could be more complex... Just saying...

At this point they should have plenty of practice removing and reinstalling the dashes in X5's to replace air bags.

Happened to me just last month. Went in for the passenger airbag recall, when i came back the next day to pick it up, i got 4x4 warning light on plus passenger restraint system error. They initially denied it was their fault and told it has something to do with SZL which they never touched since the work they did was only on the passenger side. Offered me to do free labor, i just have to pay for the part, ~$600.

Long story short, i came back with a printout on how to do the passenger airbag and there it says they need to remove the steering wheel to be able to remove the dash. Service manager almost fainted lol. They fixed it for free and apologized to me.

Thanks jay jay_dee, that is exactly my concern There are a lot of wires and reconnections that need to be done right. I hope all else goes well for you (and me).
