E70 X5 m50i and variants (TT V8)

Truth be told I am getting sick of my 4.8 -just about every 'common fault' possible has happened to it. Starting to think I got a bit of a lemon.

Anyway...

I have been eyeing up some 50i that are for sale nearby.

I have searched this forum but I cant really find many threads about them. There are several threads about people discussing brand new cars but id be looking at a 2010 model year or if I can find something in my budget a 2011/2012.

Anyone here have a 'high mile' twin turbo X5? How is it treating you?

I will be opting for an extended warranty, and this wont be my primary car so I'm not too fussed about it breaking but I'd start to get fucked off if it started most of its time in the shop as the 4.8is does.

You’re completely wrong. The X5M and the 5.0 m package are two completely different trucks. Both share the same body(e70) and many little bits, but that’s about it. The motor, drive train, suspension, headlights, bumpers, fenders, exhaust, pretty much everything is different...

The 5.0 has the n63 motor. If you are going to buy one, you better make sure it’s had the BMW Preferred Package done. That means the motor has been pulled out and they have done things like timing chains, valve seals, etc... These motors can be good IF they were maintained right(oil change every 10k-regardless of what you read or hear anywhere else). If these things haven’t been done, they are a ticking time bomb...

Lol. Both of those motors are regarded by many BMW techs are the worst BMW motors to work on. Always something and a PITA to work on.

You’re misinformed. However, I understand your sentiment... That had been the case for quite a while... Things are sorted out on the n63 motor, now the cars/trucks themselves... That’s another story. In fact one can buy a new long block n63 motor for a reasonable price now because of how many they have produced and because the techs have repaired so many, the repairs don’t take them nearly as long as they once did. The ride has changed my friend, I assure you!

Point me to this 'preferred package' you are suggesting the person make sure was done to any used car he considers.


I wont get into an argument over 'are these time bombs', because it is a retarded waste of time.

Look, I have an M car. I know it can be important to many to feel you are a special snowflake...but your precious M isn't nearly as special as you think it is.

Go look up 'the drive train' on realoem. Like the transmission, the transfer case, the axles, the driveshaft....stuff that makes up 'the drive train'...I won't waste my time, but you are quite mistaken.

BMW M cars are NOT the M cars of yesterday- they are a corporate variant designed from the beginning. But sold and marketed as 'completely different'.
