The mixed Material Concept of the new (E70) BMW X5
Came Across this, thought it was interesting, apologize if it has already been posted before...
(Was curious what material the hood was, this says its aluminum, but it sure seems like some kind of plastic to me, but apparently the front fenders are plastic).. https://www.autosteel.org/-/media/fi...ew-bmw-x5.ashx

The fenders are definitely plastic but so are many other BMW models.

The mixed Material Concept of the new (E70) BMW X5
I thought it was to save weight but guess that works too.
It being plastic should make it cheaper to replace. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

It doesn't make the paint cheaper to replace. Not to mention blending hood/door to match paint.

I’ve wondered if it was just me, but the paint on my fenders doesn’t seem to be holding up as well as the rest of the vehicle. Wonder if the part material is a factor?

I think the hood is recycled pop cans...some automatic (touchless) car washes are scary to go through. The hood flexes like a mofo.
