Pads/rotors?

In need of rear pad/rotors. Dealer in Colorado said around $780. Does that sound about right? Local Indy shops usually use poor quality aftermarket parts and typically fail. Just from my own experience.

Thanks!

That’s twice what I paid for front brakes, rotors, and sensors with OE parts at a reputable indy shop. Find a good shop and save the money. Anyone can buy the OE parts, just specify that’s what you want.

Last time I took it to a bmw Indy shop, they ended up using after market parts which eventually warped on me. I told them that I wanted OE parts and that’s what they said they put in there. BS! Just not a good experience. Hard to find a good Indy out here!

Another question I have. Does a 4.8 sport use the same kind of rotor/pad as the regular 4.8? Both 2007?

Lol

If you care, do some research on 'warping'. Rotors don't warp, the get pad deposition becuase people don't bed their pads....

Zimmerman rotors are 100% as good as "BMW Branded" parts.

Akebono pads, or OE pads...virtually the same.

Parts are basically $320 an axle, delivered. An hour job.

$780?

I usually use Amazon/ECS/eBay (whichever has the best prices shipped) to order Zimmerman and Akebono replacements. Very easy DIY...

You're telling me that rotors don't warp!? I've heard that phrase since I was a kid. You just rocked my world.

OP: I've always had good luck with Meyle rotors. I don't believe they are "OE," but they have never gone bad on me. Plus they are coated so they don't rust, which is nice for aesthetics. They are about $65 each.

Rocked my world 15 years ago.

Rotors will warp, but true warping is in fact very rare. The current designs and metallurgy is such that rotors do rather well.

If you read the zeckhausen white paper, it makes it pretty clear.

Here is the other thing about uneven pad deposition: turning the rotors- ostensibly to true them up and eliminate the warp- actually removes the pad deposition, thereby 'fixing' the issue. Likewise replacing the 'warped' rotors also results in a fix. The true cause remains hidden!

Zeckhausen has a piece on "Bedding" the brakes. It works.
