As a fellow "new" X5D owner, I will recommend the Foxwell. ~$160-170 and it's a heck of a tool. I haven't personally used Carly, but the subscription model and all the add-on pricing really turned me off of it. I have been unable to get a working version of INPA/ISTA/whateverthehelltherussiansareprovidingonline, so I can't help with that one.


FWIW, I'm currently sorting thru the thermostat/low coolant temp issue on my 2011 X5D. It was running ~76-82C and never going into regen, so I replaced the thermostat and now it's running ~75-79C........so I'm probably gonna replace it again and hope I can get it up above 80C. Other than that, I have an active tank temp sensor error, and a problem with the active tank level sensor, so I ordered the VW/Bosch active tank repair and hopefully that will take care of both of those issues in one job (~$180 vs ~$1800 for full active tank replacement). Some day I'll probably delete but for now I'll keep everything until I come up against a $$$ emissions system repair, or the price of a tune and a DPF delete pipe come way down.

So can the Foxwell do 'coding', like enabling windows up from remote, turning off annoying seatbelt chime, etc? Or is that solely the domain of the Carly System? I was hoping to buy one tool to do both diagnostics as well as 'coding'..

Does the Foxwell have diagnostic capabilities beyond the Carly 'Lite' (free with adapter) version? I haven't even been able to figure out what the Full version pricing structure is from their website, sadly enough..

But If it is subscription based, guess you could cancel at any time? Like after you have completed whatever 'coding'; changes you wanted/needed to make?

Not sure about coding with Carly. For me the best thing about Carly is some of their parameters you can easily extract from the DDE: mileages of 5 previous regenerations, regeneration status, etc. Some cool calculations, though not 100% reliable/stable (maybe carly, maybe bluetooth connection?).



The foxwell tool will allow you to order regenerations, reset adaptations, etc, register batteries, really handy mechanic stuff.



If doing major work you'll need ISTA D and ISTA P (Integrated Service Technical Application Diagnostic/Programming). I imagine ISTAP might be able to change settings but havent played around with that.
