35d Good or bad?

Latest issue is the rubber boot on one rear axle, the metal clamp has broken resulting in grease all over the inside of my wheel. BMW does not sell the boot or clamp separately, they do for the X5M, but not for non M.


New axle cost ? Have a glass of scotch in hand when you look it up


Axle from re-cycler via ebay, $125. I might as well do rear brakes at the same time....

If it's just the clamp and the joint isn't ruined from lack of grease, why not just use a quality zip tie on it? Maybe pack some more grease in the boot and then seal it with the zip tie. I'd at least try that before I went to the time and trouble of replacing the whole axle shaft.

I haven't neglected to repair anything the proper way, not about to start now

Hmm, well the metal clamp failed, a quality zip tie is a solid substitute for a part that's not available, so it would be a proper repair to the damaged part IMHO.

Go to a Napa or the like and get a replacement CV clamp. Nothing special about those. If you aren't picky, you could use a worm drive hose clamp temporarily.
