Rear Storage Compartments

I have a 5.0 with third. Just bought two months ago, realize I may not have a jack. In rear storage compartment found a screw driver an a threaded piece with an eye hook? Two large storage compartments under the rear floor but nothing in them, is there suppose to be? Where is the scissors jack and lug wrench?

I might be wrong but I believe the third row automatically gets you the run flat tires "option" from the factory, and therefore the expectation is if you get a flat you just drive to a shop, and there's no reason to supply tools.

That "threaded piece with an eye hook" is a tow hook by the way. There's a piece of the bumper that pops out for that to thread in so a tow truck has a convenient place to attach the winch.

Do you have Run-flats tires mounted? If yes, then you don't have a spare because of the run flat tire option. If you have your owners manual...you can verify the information taken from a downloaded PDF version of the owners manual.

Rear Storage Compartments

The issue is that the the 3rd row, you lose the storage area that is meant for the spare; hence the “upgrade” to RFTs.

Not sure if there’s a way to put a spare otherwise. May need to consider Fix-A-Flat as an alternative.

I will say that he eye hook saved my tail on at least one occasion.

BMW sells a compact spare wheel...as well as an emergency tire kit which you can look up in one of the online part databases.

There are also vendors that sell compact spare/emergency wheels for the e70 X5...see an example below:

{Bimmerzone sells this kit...found doing a simple google search: BMW X5 X6 E70 / F15 Spare Tire Kit (Emergency Space Saver) : Bimmerzone.com}

{wheel & storage tray that includes: jack, wrench, & crank}

{spare mounted on rear axle}

{spare mounted on front axle}

{side by side w/regular wheel & tire}

{spare above carpet w/3rd row set-up}

{spare below carpet w/o 3rd row set-up}

Ahh, on Bimmerfest, OP did not mention he has third row. When car is equipped with third row, you can't order space saver spare since there isn't room to put it. So you'll have to order it aftermarket and put it behind in the third row or like the picture above, fold down third row and put it in the trunk. I think most, if not all cars coming out of the SC factory will be factory equipped with run flats so the owner has to opt into ordering space saver spare, if available.
