Ouch. Hope it's not as bad as it looks. Keep us posted on the diagnosis. (remember, the more detail you provide the more this forum can help out - proper costs, potential DIY fixes, cheaper/better alternatives, etc)

Also, I learned a new word today.

Uncommon failure - usually extended faulted/poor maintenance or faulted repair.

Had her towed to the dealer. They didn't have any x5 loaners so I got a 3 series. I'll keep the thread updated and I hope this helps some one else. I'll also review the dealer and my experience with them for anyone in northern NJ.

I've been guilty of that in the past. Had an '03 Hyundai many years ago that kept making noises, which I ignored/put off. Turned out to be the timing belt + interference engine. It finally broke one day driving to work. Guess how that ended. Learned a big lesson, so now I'm much more proactive than I used to be.

Long ago lost an engine by not checking the oil, which I knew was leaking.

I'm not pointing fingers at the OP either...

That's the weird thing I just got an oil change last month and the on board oil level read good. If theres another way of checking please let me know I'm still not fully familiar with the x5 yet.

I am pretty sure the point that is being made is not 'check the oil'....

it is more 'dont keep driving the car around when it is making noises while chasing a internet diagnosis'.
