Help to identify passenger side hard plastic line under fender liner

I pulled my passenger wheel well apart to fix a windshield washer fluid leak and found some hacks by a previous owner (or his incompetent mechanic).

Does anyone know what this line is for? I can't seem to find it in realoem...

It was routed right next to the headlight washer line all the way to the washer fill area and was then just unconnected.

The white "filter" was not connected to anything and didn't look like a BMW part which is why I ask...

The hack that scares me was a poorly plugged headlight washer line:

It was "plugged" and the plug zip tied on and as a bonus the tee was also filled with RTV to try and plug it that way... Terrible work, they could have used a regular barbed tee from the parts store (or home depot) by removing the clip connectors and it would have been "reasonable" if they were in a pinch but this is just bad work.

I didn't find any other leak in my washer tank but I had bought a replacement anyway so I will put that in to be sure.

This is what makes me worry that something else is hacked up on the other line.

Thanks,

Rich

Tried to identify the same part with no success:

Help is appreciated! Part is circled/pointed at in red. Is it some type of filter? Does it need a second hose or is that one side (facing the rear of the vehicle) supposed to be open?

Ok well the good news is that we both have it and it wasn't connected to anything....

I sent a picture to the local dealership so we will see if they can identify it.

Thanks!

The dealership parts guy says it isn't a BMW part...

My x5 was used so who knows what was done to it. Do you know the history of yours to know that it was there from the factory?

What line does this connect to? I didn't trace it last night but will do so tonight unless someone knows.

Thanks,
Rich

12/06 is an exceptionally early build of E70, I would focus on that, especially if you both have 07 V8 cars, maybe without headlight washing? European spec intensive washing? wild guess there.

I think mine is 1/2017 so also early. V8 with headlight washers, adaptive drive.

I think I see it in this picture too:

Surprised that BMW couldn't tell you what it is... sheesh...

It's a dust filtered vent tube for the air suspension.

Happy to help. I enjoy tracking down mystery parts - call it a hobby.

And it seems to be a hobby that sits well with BMW-ownership..
