I wouldn't recommend buying a roundel on eBay there are so many fakes. The Chinese even fake the part number sticker and packaging. The fake ones will turn yellow from the sun after a short period of time under a year.

The DIY you posted is for the e53 , does it change on the e70?

Look at my picture. There's no grommet holes so it appears the e53 is differentb than the e70. But I'm sure one could easily snap off the grommets on the replacement badge, unless you simply bought the right one.

A quick 15 second check on one of the online part databases reveals that the e70's rear Roundel is NOT 82mm because the front Roundel (#1 in the diagram) is 82mm & when you click on the part number...you see that it is the traditional Roundel size that is used on multiple generations of BMWs going back to the some BMWs from the 1970s. But the rear Roundel (#2) has a different part number and is only used on the e70 X5.

If you google the rear Roudel's 11 digit part number...you may find that some vendors may have its circumference listed. Click the link below to get the part number...then type "BMW xx xx x xxx xxx" (where x=the BMW part number) into a google/internet search box to possibly find its true circumference (unless you have a caliper handy to measure it).

From what I have seen 74 is rear, 82 is front

I do have a caliper and replaced the front emblem a while back. I can't stand faded badges/emblems, especially on a nicer vehicle... 2007 E70 4.8i:

So I'm still trying to figure this out. I know, I know, I'm making this more complicated than it really is but here's where my head's at.

One thing that seems to be abundantly clear is that I can't simply buy the BMW badge without purchasing the entire bezel as an assembly. I just want to peel and stick a badge and be done with it! Where possible I try to avoid buying an entire assembly just to get the part(s) that I need. But I know sometimes it's necessary.

So can some of you BMW experts tell me whether it's possible to get just a stinking badge or am I going to be buying the whole thing no matter what I do?
