Took a stab at paint correction
So first thing I did was wash her with Meguiars gold class with my foam cannon. Followed that up with a good claying. Should have taken a pic of the bar after I was done... I'll just say the bar that started a bright yellow was a dull yellow/gray when complete. I then broke out my new harbor freight dual action polisher and went to town with Meguiars M105. Arms were feeling a little tired but I then polished the whole car again with M205. Arms were jelly now. I then rinsed the car off to get all the polish/compound dust off. Then sealed the the whole thing with Hydrosilex ceramic coat. I have to say that she turned out pretty darn good. Not perfect, but I'm not a detailer, just an avid DIYer. Satisfied! Fantastic work! I can't stand M105 because of the dusting but M205 is a very good final polish -
I did a one step this year just to get the paint "caught up" but I'll go over it again in spring and do a final polish this time - I got rid of a lot of defects but some swirls remain -

After watching some youtube videos, I started wetting the pad between uses and it cut down the dust a lot. Dust was still present but was tolerable.

Kudos to the effort and the results.
I try and do this once a year. It takes a weekend, really, to do it comfortably. Not that hard- can be intimidating at first- but once you get the hang, there is nothing else you do 'detail wise' that has a bigger impact. IMO it isnt about waxes, sealants, name brands or whatever...you NEED to polish the scratches out of the paint. Period. Just in time to endure the winter! |
