Odd issue 2008 X5 3.0 D M sport

I have a real odd issue. When say el. windows is used or clima switched on I get sometimes a message that 'self leveling system' does not work. The odd bit is rear and front window wipers start moving slowly at the same moment! I have contribute this to front fues box because all 3 relays are in there. Something like supply to box is not stable perhaps?

Has anyone seen anyting like this before? Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

I could reproduce this fault today on demand by increasing the cabin fan speed. If speed is dropped wipers stop moving. Speed increased and wipers start moving together with 'self leveling ...' and radio unit display going on and of.

So if anybody could point me to schematics for e70 I would be very greatfull. I would say supply to front fuse box is dipping...

I've tried now to put fan fully on yet no faults. However, stick the multimeter in cigaret lighter and tried to shut both fron windows while they were already shut.
The voltage dippped from 14.5 to 13.3. No fault showed up but I was supprice to see a dip. I could also audiable confirm it because fant which was fully on changed speed for a bit.

Any ideas? where is the battery control module in X5?

Again, never had a problem with starting vehicle nor empty battery. However, could it be the battery?

Very possibly your battery. Do you know how old it is? What is the voltage when not running? Your battery may very well be on its way out and the alternator is working hard to keep it charged. Your alternator isn't eliminated from suspicion at all as it too can be on its way out, but what you describe seems like the electrical gremlins that seem to pop up when a battery and/or alternator are on their way out.

battery

Done drop test today and it is showing battery is OK. However, it is 90Ah BMW battery. Have no way of confirming if still original. Drop seen when fault happens is around 1 V from 14.5 to 13.2. Not sure how it can cause a ECU reset unless the drop itself cuts off supply to them.

Seen some 100Ah non branded Pb batterries here is uk. Do I need to code the vehicle if 100 Ah fitted?

Got new battery yesterday. the fault is still threre. I've also cleaned the negative from battery to car contact just in case. Not sure what to suspect next. Even manage to get perminent airbag light on which I will try to clear today.

So operating any heavy electric to max like fan, or windows while shut will cause 'selfleveling failure', radio display goes off but radio stays on, front and rear wipers start moving very very slowly. ?????

When engine running voltage is around 14.5 which is normal and it does not indicate enything wrong with alternator. When surge happens voltage on drops down for 1V but not below 13V. this should not cause a surge.

Technically, if a 90Ah battery was installed before you installed a 100Ah battery then the battery has to registered as it's a new battery and coded because you've changed the Ah capacity.

I am not real clear on PRECISELY what issues you are having.... but you might do a search for JBE or (Junction Box Electronics) and/or FRM (foot rest module).

You might find similar issues associated with those failures..odd, seemingly unrelated modules and items can be linked with a single FRM or JBE issue.

Kinda a WAG, but hope it helps!

JBE

I think you may have a point there when you say JBE could be the issue.

I've opened the fuse box and it is a lot better now. There is still a surge as I can see wiper almost trying to move but not as bad as before. There is probably ground problem as devices are grounding via another device. Hence slight movement of wipers etc.

Now is JBE repairable item? Second hand may be the same issue or just a time bomb waiting to happen. As I understand it is just straight connector box with no electronic inside pointing towards issue with dry joints. Hence the question if anybody tried to open/repair it.

Thanks
