$20 Curb Rash Wheel Repair

About to put tires on a set of Style 467 I picked up, but one wheel had some decent curb rash in one spot. I was in a hurry and wanted this dealt with quickly.

Materials:
Loctite 2-part Epoxy putty (60 minute cure) $5
Duplicolor Ford Silver spray can $14

prep sand paper - 100 grit or 150 to rough the surface
Wetsand paper (1000,1500,2000 grit)
Polish + Applicator
Masking tape and paper
microfiber towel
plastic tubs (3) one for each grit of paper you sand with - add water and a half drop of hand soap to cut the surface tension
nitrile gloves for applying the putty

Tools:
Flat file

I quote "$20" for the price because I have all the wetsanding supplies on hand already - so do you, right? Because you take good care of your vehicle finishes?

1. clean up the rash area. I used a hard file and coarse sand paper.
2. (optional) westand with 1000 grit in a larger area surrounding the repair. This will promote adhesion of the new paint you spray on.
3. wipe up with a towel
4. Apply epoxy putty by hand (with gloves) and mold to the approximate final shape. Leave a little bit of excess because you'll file and sand this down.
5. let the epoxy cure 60 minutes or as directed.
6. file the epoxy down flush with the surface.
7. sand as needed in preparation for paint - 1000 grit works well
8. mask the area off. In the case of "Ford Silver" it's not a perfect match for BMW code 144 silver. So consider masking in the corners where it will be harder to notice a transition of color (although it will also be harder to sand/blend in a contour like that). I chose to leave an edge out on an open section of the rim, as you'll see below.
9. paint. make sure it's warm enough when you apply paint (rim, paint must be at temp) or your paint will absorb condensation.
10. paint many thin layers if you want a good finish. Try only to apply over the repair, and don't build up too much around the masking lines or you'll spend more time blending.
11. let paint cure overnight
12. remove masking
13. wetsand at 1000 grit
14. wetsand at 1500, in a slightly larger area
15. wetsand at 2000 grit in an even larger area
16. polish

Finished product is definitely acceptable. If I did any repair again I’d definitely source some BMW code 144 silver but this is only noticeable up close.

Anyone else running style 467s? I almost went with a staggered set which seem very uncommon but the tire options on a 19x10 didn’t include the Conti DWS.
