Angry Random Heat On Automatic Climate Control Setting

Hi there,

So just picked up my new "used" E70 X5 and i love the car... except the Automatic setting on my climate control.

Basically, it will work perfectly fine and distribute 22-23 degree celsius air around my cabin but randomly it will increase fan speed to almost full and then blow hot air into the cabin out of some vents. The only way to stop this is turning it back to manual mode and waiting a few mins before switching back to Auto again.

Has anybody experienced this? It is such a strange issue and I thought that potentially the AC compressor was shitting off but simply turning down the fan speed (aka switching it off auto) seems to fix the problem.

Any input/testing would be awesome!

What happens if you leave it in AUTO...but change the intensity setting? What intensity setting do you currently have the IHKA control panel set...soft, medium, or intensive?

It is for 'full' option ckimate control. Have seen many who does not have those 3 kind of air blowing features. Even has no double climate vontrol. Only one degree option in the middle for both sides

Yes I have the intensity setting. I usually have it on soft. The issue isn’t related to the fan speed as such, it is more about the temperate of the air. It’s almost like the temp sensor gets an incorrect reading and tries to quickly increase the temperate by blowing hot air in the cabin on full ball. It never takes a correct second reading until I switch it to manual and then press auto again.

I have same situation. I think it is not issue... after seconds it comes back to normal.... for example somebody step out of the car. I use soft as well...

My '07 had similar issues, started as an occasional taking over control, morphed into an every drive AC slams hard into defrost mode high speed fan, warmed air out defrost ducts and recovery only when system was put into manual mode, and then was slow to recover.
I did a system error scan with iCarly, it pointed to the windshield condensation sensor that is located in the inside mirror mount assembly. $150 in parts and 30 minutes of removing/replacing the plastic surround without breaking it, and all is good now.
Get access to a BMW specific error scan tool. It will she'd light on many of these aggrivating issues these interactive computers on wheels have.
