Alarm issue

Hello,
Im unable to set the lock/alarm light flash, mirror light blink or audible beep though I drive. It shows the options but when selected the check mark appears then disappears in half a second) I tested the alarm by leaving a window down locking doors with the fob, reaching in and opening the door. No alarm.. I do have an issue with the rear lift gate were I'm unable to open it by pressing the release on the lift gate but it works from the dash and fob. I did replace the release switch but no joy. I wonder if that has something to do with the no alarm issue? When we bought the X the hatch would randomly open on its own (for about an hour after replacing the totally dead battery) but has defaulted to not working using the release switch. I don't have a power lift gate. Anyone been down this road?

Just a side note (because it sounds like you may have a deeper issue)...in order to "test" the alarm siren system (DWA) by using the interior motion sensor...once you've locked the vehicle from the exterior driver's door...or by using the remote fob...you'll need to WAIT approx 30 seconds for the IMS (interior motion sensor) & tilt sensors to arm.

If you lock the vehicle using the interior central lock button(s), then the vehicle is only single-locked and the DWA system isn't armed...and the interior door handles still function.

The interior door handles are disabled when the vehicle has been locked only from the exterior driver's door lock cylinder or by using the remote fob buttons. This procedure also arms the anti-theft alarm siren system (DWA)...and the red LED should start to do a slow flash.

If the red LED is not illuminating...or flashes fast for 10 seconds then slows down...then there's an issue with DWA. Below are some links to the BMW TIS website that gives some details about DWA & Central Locking systems:
