Thank you all for the responses. Definitely only looking at 3.0si. I'll leave the complicated motors for my cars still under warranty. Car looked good. Water pump done at 80k miles, lots of preventative maintenance already done. I'm going to see a few more before I decide. Trying to avoid 2 silver BMWs at once (which seems odd to my wife because I've already had 3) but for the right car the color isn't too big a deal. Hopefully I'm putting up a 'look what I just bought' thread in the next week or so and then everyone can tell me where I went wrong. haha

I'd skip the E70 and go for an F25. apart from the engine, I find the build quality below standard. Materials used, construction designed, over complicated and too much expectations marketed for a creaking, bumpy, heavy, slow (idrive, button reactions etc).

To me, the F25 is simply a better car and except the little engines, the quality feel is higher. Practical space is more or less the same I think. Better agility, better I-drive, more responsive and less feeling of 'overweight'

The 7-seater E70 leaves very little cargo space (and no spare wheel at all which I would definitely not want in a country with long distances like yours).

I went to the end of the E70 line with mine. My 2013 has been super reliable and the power is awesome. There is nothing I would want to replace it with. Power all over the place rpm wise which I found surprising and it keeping the rpms down at 1200 rpm while cruising just makes it feel like a different animal. The idrive works so well I have had no itch to upgrade to something else like I usually do in my other cars.

I have 2 E53's and an E70 and if we go somewhere we get in the E70. The gas mileage around town sucks but on the highway it does great.

Highly recommend the LCI model with the turbo 6 cylinder. Would buy again for sure if I had it to do over again.

The only thing I can knock it for is the airbag recall requiring them to remove the entire dash to change it and the electric water pump concept but all E70's gassers have those. Other than that perfect car in my opinion.

I don't think any of the e70s have front and rear air suspension though.

I just bought a 2008 with 3.0 that has full air suspension.

can you pull the options list with the VIN and find that code/description? I can't find anything other than self-leveling height that refers to the air suspension and it does not even mention the word air.

Reading/deciphering the equipment list and marketing terms can be quite an amusing excercise.

In the manual you're not sent to the workshop or dealer but to a Sports Activity Center for your Sports Activity Vehicle.

Sports activity center sounds like a fitness studio, not a place to get your car serviced

Not sure where I could do that? But VIN is *********7LY74690 if you know a quick source to drop it into.

Mine has the front level sensors on it, which is for controlling the air spring heights AFAIK. Not sure what BMW calls it?

Please remove the whole VIN (this can be used for theft, fraud and whatnot), only the last 7 characters are needed for the list (google bmw vin decoder to get several sites where you can do that)

Some interesting ones:

8SL Preparation For Trailer Tow Hitch Vorbereitung Fuer Anhaengerkupplung

Depending on the weight allowed to pull, this may included a bigger fan and extra oil cooler. Although I've seen that mentioned separately as an option (increased towing weight to 3500kg)).

220 Self-leveling Suspension Niveauregulierung
This is the airsuspension in the rear only. So the car lifts or drops by pumping more or less air in the suspension 'bags'. It knows what to do as the leveling sensors up front and back give their positions continuously (and some data on steering wheel position I think but I didn't look into that)

I don't see sports suspension nor active suspension. I don't know what default, standard is: if this has any setting (sports/comfort) or that that button next to the gearlevel is for the active version.

I've managed to avoid theft or fraud for the past 21 years with my VIN prominently displayed to the public in the windshield of all 39 vehicles I've ever owned. Not too worried about it.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to jump under the vehicle and see what I'm dealing with. I just purchased it a couple days ago and the seller said it had front air suspension. I'll be kind of bummed if I still have to do the front air suspension swap.

you're welcome. I doubt that there is front air suspension at all, perhaps he referred to active suspension?

The vin on the windshield is one, on the internet has quite a bit bigger reach. Up to you, just wanted to make sure that it's not put and left there unwillingly.
