Question on Fuel Pump Control Module

Hello everyone, New X5 owner but not new BMW owner here with a simple question. I recently picked up a 2008 X5 4.8i. It cranks but doesn’t start. I replaced the multi-purpose green fuel pump relay with the same result. I picked up a new Fuel Pump Control module but I am not sure if my X5 has one or not. Before opening the box I want to make sure my year has it and where it would be located. I did a search on here before posting. I didn’t see anything. Thanks

Are you using any diagnostic tools or just shot gunning parts from rockauto?!?

Getbmwparts.com

Parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com

Realoem.com

Enter YIUR bin, it will list only parts for your car

No Rock Auto, FCP Euro Parts with genuine BMW parts. I haven’t received any codes so I haven’t hooked up the diagnostic tool. I plan to test to see if the pump is getting power, I’m just curious if my car had a Fuel Pump Control Module to see if that was issue before purchasing a new pump and sending unit.

There is a recall on fuel pump. You may want to check that out.

Thanks, I thought that there was and I put my VIN in for the recall and it said there wasn’t any per my VIN. That said, I’m still thinking to just replace the pump, sending Unit and Fuel Filter

Thanks, I just did that now on the Getbmwparts.com site. FCP Euro didn’t have that as an option. It doesn’t show that module. Thanks

Viktimize is an unknown quantity at this point
Last time I had a crank but no start on a BMW, it was the ignition switch. That's why troubleshooting is a good idea. It can save a lot of unnecessary work, money, and headache.

I’ve had 3 ranging from No crank no start, crank no start and crank hard start and fall dead. I’ve worked on E46 and E39 but not an E70. Most of those were the crank position sensor or DME wasn’t getting a signal from the EWS but this is a newer model with a different security system.

so if your car doesnt have a FPCM, you'll just buy a pump and sending unit, give it a whirl?

This thread is odd.... just seems weirdly devoid of facts and diagnostic curiosity and details.

You bought a FPCM, but habvent yet tested fuel pressure??? Just odd...

good luck

What was odd about anything expressed? Rule of thought, you start with the smallest part and work your way to the most expensive. If there isn’t a code, you test to see if there power coming from the output being the DME to the plug. Many models of X5 from my particular year depending on engine combination and or package had a fuel pump module as well as a relay. Relay was replaced so I asked about the Fuel Pump Control Module.
