I felt the same way, but then I looked at it from the standpoint that someone I cared about could be seriously injured or killed. At which point I had to come to the realization that I could never live with that over my concern for scratched or damaged dash panels, or irritating squeaks.

In the end it went smoothly. I do sometimes notice a vibration in the dash pad that I don't recall being there before, but its inconsistent, and only and idle (it is a diesel, so).

Mine dash is making noise where the dash touches the windshield. There is a small section at the end of the far right side. I slid a piece of paper in there and the noise went away.

Oddly enough, I had zero issues with my '08 X5 4.8i prior to having the airbag recalls completed. All the problems I began having with going into limp mode started happening after the dealer worked on the car. I'm not one to believe in coincidences so the timing was too close for them not to have caused something. But, of course, arguing with the dealer is a futile effort so I ended up buying my 2013 and selling the 2008.

Hopefully the Air Bag Recalls have already been completed on the '13 you purchased?
