Looking for transmission: Confused a bit.

I am starting my look for a transmission for my 08 3.0. The transmission was verified as a 6hp21x. Looking through different part sources online list it as a 6hp26. I am a little confused as what route I should be going. Are they interchangable or does the transmission have to be from the e70. Any info would be great. Ive tried searching but 20+ pages of results and i didnt fine much info.

With the understanding i would need to either change met unit or coding but keeping it out of the conversation for now.

I'm almost positive the 3.0 is the 6HP21 which is the new generation of the 6HP19. The 4.8 used the 6HP26. I believe you will need an E70 transmission and your transmission computer needs to be swapped into the donor as it is part of the anti-theft system. Otherwise you will need someone with specialist equipment to code it to your vehicle.

Out of curiosity, what is wrong with your current transmission?

Bought it and it was not staying in gear slipping and some hard shifts. Had to be shifted manually to stay out of safe mode. Ended up changing a all the seals and sleeve and now car can not idle with out going into safe mode. It slips between 3/4 and also makes a terrible grinding noise downshifting from 5/4.

And thanks. That makes sense the 26 is for 4l. I’ll be keeping a look out for one.
