As far as I can tell, vehicles either have two types of rear upper shock mounts: short or tall. The air suspension and 3rd row seats vehicles seem to use the short mounts; others tall. The tall mounts accommodate longer shocks, the short, shorter shocks. Disclaimer: I have not bought shocks, yet, so you need to confirm- just trying to give you some background. I would just buy both sets and return the excess to be sure.

Opposite

So I have air suspension and I checked the other day and I have the short upper shock mount. I believe the air suspension uses the short shock bodies.

I forgot if you have 3rd row seating and I’m mobile right now. It’s hard to say- If you have 3rd row seating go to your car and raise the rear interior hatch, then pop off those reusable plastic rivets that hold the carpet to the side. Take clear pictures of the upper shock mount and post here. Without more info I have a hard time even guessing! The people who wrote the shock figment blurbs should be shot!

Bummer, that would have given us a little more clarity.

Ok, here is what I do, but don't shoot the messenger!

If you look at the Rockauto pictures of the KYB shocks.. one pair says with 3rd row, the other pair says without.

The "with 3rd row" shocks look shorter than the "without 3rd row" shocks in the Rockauto pictures. To my understanding there are only tall and short upper shock mounts. If you have air suspension and no 3rd row seat, and you assume my vehicle came built like yours (I have short upper shock mounts, are suspension, no 3rd row), and the Rockauto pictures are accurate, then you would have the short upper shock mounts and need the shorter shocks. In this case, I would go for the KYB's on closeout, which are the "with 3rd row seating" KYB option. I would probably buy the with 3rd row and without 3rd row shocks are return what you don't use. Rockauto might have restrictions on returning closeouts, but it's only a $60 buck loss if the short shocks don't work out.

Let us know what happens if you move forward!

I called a local autoparts supplier and they claim they have KYB compatible with my basic x5

KYB 341728

KYB 341727

I do not want something better I just want to know if these are compatible ..

Not even rockauto helps the local Beverly Hills bmw dealer looked up my car wax by last 7 of VIN and gave me these part numbers

33526781923

33526781924
The process of giving your car a good, thorough wash and wax will help protect your investment.
