I have this also occasionally. Like you, it's only on some startups, never during idle or when taking off from a stop light, etc. It figured it was the turbo seals or just the atrocious vapor recovery system.

White smoke on cold start in colder climates is normal as that's most likely condensation. Blue smoke in most cases is VCG.
It's about a 8-12 hour DIY https://youtu.be/x5o-SaJ1lDw

Is this due to the 'inner' seal on the VCG? Looks like if that fails, crankcase gas/oil vapor can then enter the intake tract? |

Yeah, I just watched that linked video, I'm not understanding the correlation.
I watched another video from fixmyeuro. That makes some sense with pressurizing the crankcase but I don't have any oil leaks. Still the same issue? Last edited by stabmasterflex; 01-27-2020 at 09:09 PM. |

The space between the two is exposed to ‘crankcase pressure’... If the outer seal fails, then oil leak to the exterior.... But if the issue is the inner seal, the oil doesn’t leak out- it leaks into the intake tract. I think. Mine is fine so far.

op. since you are deleted and and I'm assuming the turbo is in good health, the next logical cause would the the vcg. especially at 200km
