E70 heater fan loud noise in cold.

Has anyone had a very loud rotational noise from the heater blower motor when the temperature is really cold? My 2011 X5d (99k miles) made this loud noise that varied with fan speed when I started the car last week with the outside temp at 19 degrees. It happened again the next morning at 21 degrees. I just gave it a try, now that it’s about 45 degrees out, and no noise at all.
It sounded like it had no lubrication and bearings or shaft were rubbing like crazy, it with no noise now, I’m not digging in there unless I know what needs to be done. Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks.
