Does my car have swirl flaps?

Hi there,

I've been reading up on the swirl flap issue with the M57 diesel motor and i'd like to know if you guys recommend having them removed?

On most of the videos I've seen the engine cover looks different to the one on my 2007 E70 X5 3.0D and I've read that some of the later motors used a slightly different system that doesn't have as many issues.

The last 7 digits of my vin are LZ13958 and my engine number is 6D33022296516. Could you guys please assist me in checking this out?

Moreover, if I do have swirl flaps, what size would I have?

Kind regards

Swirl Flaps

M57 has them on the E70 in the US. Australia E53... can't say for sure but probably. They do their job so you need to keep them. The O rings leak and make a mess, but that's the nature of the beast.

Coking from oil deposits is very light at least on mine. I had a MB E320 CDI and the intake was literally full and clogged. So there is no strain on the swirl flaps so you should be ok for a long time.

I've deleted the swirl flaps with blanks and coding them out via tune

I’ve spoken to a few bmw techs and they’ve confirmed that my 07 3.0d has 33mm swirl flaps. I’ll get them deleted in the next week or two!

Any change in drivability after having your swirl flaps deleted?

G'day mate,
Can I ask you the fuel consumption of your car?
I have the exact same model as yours, mine is 15l/100km

No but my motor is cleaner because they aren't leaking anymore
