Model ZF gearbox in 09 E70 3.0 sd
I am wandering if anyone has come across this or account for this. The only thing I can assume is that it was replaced at some time and this model box was put in it.. Any input would be gratefully received. Regards Stu |

I wonder if running your VIN through a decoder would tell you the stock (new) configuration.
Also, page 43 & 46: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/atta...7&d=1409917959 Transmissions changed in various models at different times, not sure how you determined what your are supposed to have.... |

M57N2 double turbo models have ZF 6HP28 tranny but BMW didn't change the nomenclature and it's designated as 6HP26 in parts diagrams. These both fit the same oil pan. There are two compatible versions of the oil pan. Plastic one with integrated filter and a rubber gasket or metal oil pan, separate filter and a thin gasket.
Are you sure the leak is from the oil pan seal and not the electric connector sleeve? Did they change the sleeve too when oil was changed? It's advisable to renew the sleeve always because they are prone to fail.

Thanks for the info. The first leak was from the rear of the pan as I had it jacked up and noticed it. The second appears to be from the rear, but I got it back to the garage asap on Sat before it dumped too much and was UN-drivable. I had look and ran my finger up under the plastic plastic cover and its very wet along the back edge again. I couldn't say for sure exactly where it was coming from.. No the sleeve was not changed. I bought the original kit from a gearbox repairs specialist who supply ZF parts and was told the sleeve didn't need replacing. I googled the 28 and found whole box's being sold on ebay and one was for a 6 series and REAL OEM also showed the this being a 26 fitted in that model. So what your saying makes perfect sense. Thanks for your assistance and putting this mystery to bed for me... I am dropping the keys in tomorrow morn first thing and having a chat with the owner. It maybe a warped pan as two gaskets have been fitted and its still leaking. I would of personally checked the pan on a flat surface just to verify it looked ok, before blaming it on another gasket. But hindsight's a great thing he he he |
