re-torque valve cover and valvetronic to stop oil leaks
x5 e70 3.0si n52n Aluminum mounting bolts (magnesium valve cover) – 7Nm (5 ft-lb) + 90 degrees Steel mounting bolts (plastic valve cover) – 9Nm (7 ft-lb) Valvetronic actuator motor 4 Nm (3 ft-lb)? (IS this correct? cant find this info...) The valvetronic would not need re calibrated if not removing? (Only re-tightening bolts.) Last edited by brokenbim; 08-31-2020 at 10:35 AM. |

I wouldn't do it. A) I've never had luck retorquing bolts to stop an oil leak on BMWs. The gasket material they use hardens and that's what causes leaks. The only fix is replacement. B) Aluminum fasteners are generally torque-to-yield which means they are very close to sheering when originally installed. They are very easy to sheer by accident so I'd leave them alone.
